25 Years of Sonshine Club

This summer marked the 25th anniversary of the children’s holiday “Sonshine Club” run by members and friends of the church. Each year, children between the ages of 5 and 11 have been coming along to play games on the nearby fields and around the chapel buildings, to make craft, sing songs and to hear stories from the Bible. Many parents first came to the club themselves years ago and are now bringing their own children, whilst others are helping to lead the activities.

This year the theme of the week was “People who met Jesus”. The children heard the true stories of John the Baptist who was eager to point others to Jesus as the Saviour of the world, Mary and Martha who learned the importance of listening to Jesus, 10 lepers and Jairus, the ruler of the synagogue, who all saw the power of Jesus to heal disease and even raise the dead to life and finally Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, who learned what it was to have faith in Jesus. Also through the week, the children heard the exciting serial story “The Dangerous Islands”, following the travels of John Coleridge Patteson, a Christian missionary to the Solomon Islands in the 1850’s.

The fun resumes on Thursday 8th September with the relaunch of Thursday Club. All children of primary age are invited to come along each Thursday during term time from 6.00pm to 7.00pm. The club is completely free of charge and all are welcome. Please contact us if you would like more details.
